The 3 Best Ways to Unblock the Sacral Chakra

Invite Joy, Pleasure and Connection

🧡If unblocking the sacral chakra is something you know you need but you are not sure where to start, this will help you understand exactly why this chakra gets blocked and how to open it again in a way that feels natural and safe.

When the sacral chakra is blocked, the effects ripple into almost every part of your life. You feel it physically, emotionally, mentally, and even in your relationships.

How a Blocked Sacral Chakra Affects the Body

The sacral chakra sits just below your belly button and influences the lower abdomen, reproductive organs, pelvis, and digestive system.

When the energy here becomes stagnant, it can show up as bladder or kidney infections, fertility challenges, lower back tension, pelvic discomfort, hormonal issues, or digestive trouble.

This chakra is deeply linked to the fluids, organs, and nervous system within this entire area of the body, so when the energy slows down, the symptoms tend to follow.

How the Sacral Stores and Holds Emotions

This chakra is also one of your strongest emotional centres. It is where emotional energy is felt, processed, and released. When emotions are not fully felt, they get stored here instead. Over time, this creates emotional congestion that can feel heavy, overwhelming, or even numbing.

🚫🟠 Because of this, a blocked sacral chakra can show up as low self worth, low libido, creative block, emotional instability, irritability, difficulty connecting with others, or feeling disconnected from your own body.

Blocked sacral energy is extremely common in today’s world. Most people were never taught how to process emotions, how to release guilt, or how to allow pleasure without shame. Daily stress, overthinking, emotional suppression, or constantly ignoring your own needs all contribute to the sacral shutting down.

The good news is that no matter how blocked your sacral feels, it can always be reopened. It was designed to help you experience joy, creativity, pleasure, passion, and connection.

Once this chakra begins to rebalance, you naturally return to a state of flow instead of resistance.

Here are just some of the positive shifts you will experience when the sacral chakra opens:

  • More joy in everyday life

  • A healthier relationship with pleasure

  • Higher self worth

  • Stronger creativity

  • Deeper emotional availability

  • A natural, healthy libido

  • Stronger relationships

  • A sense of ease and flow in daily life

Now let’s get into the three best and most powerful ways to unblock the sacral chakra and restore your natural emotional flow.

1. Connect with Water to Restore Flow

The sacral chakra is associated with the element of water. This is because water represents movement, emotion, fluidity, and the ability to stay grounded while also staying open.

Think about how water flows around obstacles instead of resisting them. It adapts, moves, expresses, and carries energy in a natural, effortless way.

When your sacral chakra is blocked, you experience the opposite. You feel stuck, rigid, emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from pleasure, and unable to move forward with ease. Working with water helps restore that natural flow.

Here are powerful ways to use water for sacral chakra unblocking

🛁🚿Mindful Bath or Shower

Instead of rushing through it, turn bathing into a ritual. Feel the sensations on your skin. Notice the warmth. The pressure. The soothing release. As the water runs over your body, imagine it washing away old emotions, guilt, tension, or stress. Even a five minute mindful shower can shift energy in this chakra.

🏊Swimming

Swimming is one of the most healing forms of sacral work. The full body movement, combined with the weightless feeling, helps your energy system loosen up. You literally move through water, which encourages your sacral chakra to mimic that same flow.

💧Staying Hydrated

Hydration matters more than people realise for this chakra. Your sacral represents fluid balance, and when you get dehydrated, your energy becomes stagnant. You might feel irritable, unfocused, low mood, or even physically tense. Drinking enough water is not just for your physical health. It supports sacral chakra unblocking and emotional flow.

Water Blessing

This does not have to be anything dramatic or spiritual. It can be as simple as holding your water for a moment and setting an intention like, “Let this hydrate my body and help me feel lighter.” Intention impacts your energy system more than you think.

Water will literally take on the emotion that you project into it, then as you drink that water, you are drinking that intention, if this interests you, look up “Emoto’s Water Consciousness Experiment”

Other grounded water practices

  • Listening to water sounds (this is one of my personal favourites!)
Sitting by a lake or fountain
Using warm compresses on your lower abdomen

  • Taking a walk near a river or a lake

These small practices bring softness, flow, and movement back into a chakra that has felt tight or stagnant for too long.

2. Reconnect with Pleasure

Pleasure is one of the main frequencies of the sacral chakra. When you allow pleasure, your sacral chakra naturally opens. When you deny or suppress pleasure, it closes.

Most people think of sexual pleasure when they hear the word, and while this type of pleasure absolutely matters for the sacral chakra, it is not the only kind. Pleasure is anything that brings comfort, satisfaction, joy, warmth, creativity, or emotional nourishment.

When you think about how to unblock my sacral chakra, one of the most powerful answers will always be to allow yourself feel pleasure again. And the important word there is ‘allow’. Allow yourself FEEL the pleasure.

You can do any of the below activities but if you’re not allowing yourself to really feel the pleasure of them then your sacral chakra isn’t benefiting.

Here are 10 examples of everyday types of pleasure that help restore sacral energy. (although anything that brings you pleasure will work)

1. The pleasure of eating your favourite food

🍽️Slow down, savour it, and let your body actually feel the experience.

2. The pleasure of warm sunlight

☀️Even five minutes standing by the window helps soften this chakra.

3. The pleasure of soft textures

🧦Blankets, jumpers, cosy socks, anything that feels gentle on your skin.

4. The pleasure of creative expression

🎨Drawing, painting, writing, decorating, cooking, anything expressive.

5. The pleasure of movement

💃 Stretching, dancing, walking, or swaying your hips slowly.

6. The pleasure of scent

🕯️Candles, essential oils, perfume, or even the smell of fresh air.

7. The pleasure of being comfortable

🛏️Clean sheets, a warm room, soft lighting.

8. The pleasure of laughter

😂Letting yourself be silly, watching something funny, relaxing into joy.

9. The pleasure of rest

💤Real rest, not scrolling rest. Deep breathing, stillness, quiet.

10. The pleasure of connection

🫂Talking with someone who sees you and makes you feel understood.

With every one of these, the key is mindfulness.
You need to actually let yourself feel it. Notice the sensation. Notice what it brings up. Notice how your body responds. This is how sacral healing happens.

Sexual Pleasure Also Matters

Let us be honest. When your sacral chakra is blocked, sex can feel complicated.
Some people avoid it. Others feel disconnected during it. Some swing the opposite way and use sexual energy to escape emotions. Both extremes are signs of imbalance.

Allowing yourself to experience sexual pleasure in a safe, comfortable, embodied way helps open this chakra. You do not need to force anything or rush anything. Start with connection to your own body, your own sensations, and your own comfort. Pleasure is a healing tool, not something to fear or judge.

3. Process Your Emotions in the Body

The sacral chakra is one of the strongest emotional centres. This is where emotional memories and sensations settle when they are not fully processed.

If you tend to push your emotions down, avoid them, overthink them, or judge yourself for having them, your sacral chakra slowly shuts down.

The strongest emotional blocker of the sacral chakra is guilt and shame. This can be justified guilt, like if you genuinely hurt someone, or unjustified guilt, like feeling guilty or shameful for resting, eating, spending money, saying no, or simply existing.

Many people feel guilt even when they have done absolutely nothing wrong, and this creates a deep contraction in the sacral area.

Guilt is not the only issue though.
Any emotion that is not processed will eventually get stuck here. That includes joy, sadness, pleasure, anger, love, and everything in between. If you cannot feel your feelings in the moment, your sacral holds them for you, but not in a beneficial way. Over time, those emotions build up and block the chakra.

To heal this, you need two things.
You must learn to feel emotions as they come up, and you must work through old emotions that have been stuck for a long time.

Feel Emotions in the Present Moment

Instead of focusing on the thoughts attached to your feelings, focus on the sensations.

For example, if you feel guilty because you forgot to make your kids lunch, notice how the guilt shows up in your body.
Is it in your stomach or chest.
Is it heavy, tight, warm, or sharp.
What does it feel like physically.

What you do not want to do is attach new thoughts like, “I feel so bad, I am a terrible mum.”
That only increases the emotional charge.
Let the thoughts go and feel the feeling without adding more stories.

When you do this, the emotion processes and leaves the body naturally.
This is sacral chakra unblocking in its most powerful form.

Release Old Emotions Through Journaling

Many people carry stuck emotions from years ago.
Old guilt.
Old shame.
Old heartbreak.
Old resentment.
Old fear.

These emotions often sit in the sacral chakra until they are acknowledged and released. Journaling is one of the most effective ways to process these older layers because writing takes the emotional charge out of the mind and moves it out of the body.

✍️You can write what you feel every day, or you can explore deeper emotions intentionally. Being open and honest on the page is what allows emotional energy to move.

If you want to explore this deeply, I created the Mental Health Reset Guide which contains 220 journaling prompts across 22 emotional categories such as guilt, sadness, jealousy, insecurity, fear, anger, and more. It also includes activities and helpful techniques for emotional healing. You can join the waitlist here.
