Overwhelmed by Emotion? There’s a Deeper Layer You're Missing
The Hidden Struggle You’re Not Imagining
Do you ever feel completely overwhelmed by your own emotions? Like you’re forever on edge, quick to anger, cry, or even shut down completely?
I bet you’ve been told you’re “too sensitive” or you’ve wondered why things that bother you don't seem to bother others. Maybe you see other people appear so care-free about things that can send you into a spiral.
It can be frustrating, exhausting, and leave you feeling like something’s wrong with you. But what if there’s more going on than meets the eye?
Something that’s rarely talked about but so important to your mental health is the connection between your emotions, your nervous system, and your sacral chakra.
This post is here to explain WHY you feel this way and how to free yourself. If you’re feeling emotionally overloaded or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to shift, your nervous system and your energy body could be the answer.
The Emotional Rollercoaster: What’s Really Going On?
Your nervous system is the control centre for your entire body. It’s responsible for everything—your heart rate, digestion, breathing, sleep, and yes… your emotions too. When it’s regulated, everything tends to flow. You feel more balanced, present, and able to respond to life rather than react.
My favourite analogy is to think of your nervous system like a traffic controller 🚦. When your nervous system is regulated, it’s like all the cars are moving smoothly through a city. The roads are clear, the signs are easy to follow, and everyone knows where they’re going – you feel great, calm and in control.
But when your nervous system is dysregulated—because of stress, trauma, or other factors—it’s chaos. 🚧 The signs don’t make sense, cars are honking, no one knows who’s meant to go first, and collisions are just inevitable. You feel overwhelmed, stressed, angry or even numb.
This is why taking the time to consciously regulate your nervous system is so important
Common signs your nervous system might be dysregulated:
💥 Quick to anger, tears, or emotional outbursts
You might find yourself snapping at the tiniest thing, crying unexpectedly, or feeling like your emotions are bubbling right under the surface—just waiting to explode.
😣 Struggle with low mood or anxiety
One moment you’re fine, the next you’re in a spiral of overthinking or sadness. It can feel like your emotions are unpredictable and out of your control.
For me, I often started imagining scenarios that made me angry… for no apparent reason. Scenarios that were highly unlikely to ever happen, and yet, I was playing them out in my mind like it was normal.
🔁 Feelings that come on too strong or last too long
Maybe you experience intense emotional reactions that don’t seem to match the situation—or you find it hard to let go, replaying things in your mind long after they’ve happened.
This isn’t just about being sensitive (which, by the way, is not a flaw). These are signs that something deeper is going on.
Your nervous system and your energy field may both be crying out for support—and when they’re not working in harmony, it can leave you feeling emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck.
What Is the Sacral Chakra & What’s It Got to Do with My Emotions?
The sacral chakra—also known as Svadhisthana—is your second energy centre, an orange sphere of energy located just below the navel. 🟠 Although invisible to the naked eye, it’s deeply connected to your emotions, creativity, pleasure, sensuality, relationships, and your ability to flow with life.
It’s like your inner river—the place where emotional energy is processed, expressed, and released 🌊
When this chakra is balanced, you tend to feel emotionally free and connected to yourself and others. There’s a sense of ease—your feelings move through you, creativity flows naturally, and you’re able to enjoy life more fully.
But when this chakra is blocked or imbalanced, things can feel heavy. You might feel emotionally stuck, disconnected from joy or intimacy, or like your reactions are too intense—or completely absent.
And here’s the thing: many of us are never taught how to feel our emotions safely. From a young age, we’re often told to “calm down,” “stop crying,” or “toughen up.” Over time, we learn to suppress our feelings just to fit in or avoid conflict.
But emotions are energy, and when that energy isn’t allowed to move, it gets stuck—and the sacral chakra is where it often settles.
So if you feel like emotions hit you out of nowhere, or you’re always on the edge of either exploding or shutting down, it’s not just in your head. That stuck energy is trying to move through you, but if your nervous system is also dysregulated, it doesn’t know how to help—it’s too busy trying to keep you safe.
Because the sacral chakra is all about flow, the most powerful thing you can do is to start allowing yourself to feel.
Let the emotions move through you. Cry if you need to. Scream into a pillow. Dance. 🩰 Journal. 🎨 Create. Whatever helps you reconnect with your emotional body and let that energy out—do that.
Not because you're broken, but because your body and your energy are desperate for release. 🕊️
If you want to go deeper into this, I’ve created a Free chakra ebook that explains each chakra in more detail—including how to tell when they’re blocked, and what symptoms to look for.
Healing Tips: Regulate Your Emotions from the Inside Out
Let’s be real—when you’re overwhelmed by emotions, the last thing you want is someone telling you to “just calm down.” 🙄
What you actually need is support. Tools. A way to process what’s going on so it doesn’t keep building up inside you. Because that emotional heaviness you’re carrying? That’s energy that needs to move
One of the simplest but most powerful ways to start processing your emotions is through journaling. You don’t need a fancy prompt or perfect handwriting—just get it all out.
You can write letters to people (and never send them), you can scribble down how you’re feeling in the moment, or write until your brain goes quiet. It’s not about fixing it—it’s about releasing it.
Another powerful tool is sacral chakra meditations. Honestly, when I’ve been feeling like absolute poo—like drowning in emotion and completely off-centre—a few days of listening to sacral chakra meditations has made the absolute world of difference.
They help your energy body process what your nervous system can’t handle in the moment. There are loads of beautiful ones on YouTube, and I’ll be releasing my own soon (which will be next-level powerful ✨).
Movement is another huge one. The sacral chakra is about flow, so anything that gets your body moving will help. Go for a walk in nature, dance around your kitchen, stretch, shake—just let your body lead. Emotions are stored physically too, and moving helps them release.
To support your nervous system, you can try:
Box breathing (inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4)
EFT tapping to calm the fight/flight response
Cold showers or splashing your face with cold water to reset your system
Grounding—sit with your feet on the earth, slow your breathing, feel into the present moment
These practices don’t have to be big or complicated. Just start incorporating a few into your day. A couple of minutes here and there. The shift will happen—and you’ll feel it.
Because listen… feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or emotionally exhausted isn’t your “normal.” It’s not just “how you are.” Trust me on that. You don’t need to live in that prison anymore. There’s a way out. It’s time to gently start releasing everything that’s been weighing you down.
If you haven’t already, make sure you grab my free chakra ebook—it goes deeper into each of the seven chakras and gives you insight into where your energy might be blocked and what you can do about it.
You’re not stuck. You’re just ready to heal.
