You’re Not Too Sensitive…
You’re Energetically Overloaded (& here’s how you fix it)
The part no one ever tells you…
You’ve probably been told you’re “too sensitive” more times than you can count. Maybe you’ve even started saying it about yourself — like it’s some kind of flaw you just have to live with.
The truth is… you’re not too sensitive. You’re just carrying too much. Emotionally. Energetically. Maybe even physically.
And it’s not because you’re weak or broken — it’s because no one ever taught you how to support your energy.
If you find yourself feeling drained around people, emotionally reactive for “no reason,” or constantly carrying the weight of the world in your chest, you’re not imagining it. You’re overwhelmed — not just mentally, but energetically.
And once you understand what’s really going on underneath that sensitivity… you can finally start to feel safe, grounded, and clear again.
Sensitivity Nearly Broke Me — Until I Learned This
I’ve lived this, trust me. For most of my life, I was told I was “too sensitive.” And for years, I believed it.
I’d pretend things didn’t bother me — that someone’s words or actions didn’t hurt — when inside, they cut deep. But I felt like I couldn’t show it.
I thought if I did, people would see me as pathetic, dramatic… weak. So I shut down. I disconnected from my own emotions because I thought there was something wrong with me for feeling so much over things other people brushed off.
But when you do that — when you silence your emotions — they don’t disappear. They get stuck. And for me, they eventually turned into illness.
I was constantly unwell. Sometimes it was small things, sometimes it led to major surgery. I was miserable. It wasn’t until I learned how to manage my sensitivity — how to see it as a strength instead of a flaw — that everything started to shift. Sensitivity is a blessing, my friend. You might not believe that yet, but you will.
Your Nervous System & Emotional Overload
Your nervous system is like the behind-the-scenes control centre for your entire body. It’s constantly scanning for danger — physical, emotional, or energetic — and when it perceives something as a threat (even something small), it reacts automatically.
You go into fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. And when you’re stuck in these survival states for too long, your system becomes dysregulated — constantly on edge, overreactive, exhausted, or numb. (I spent my whole 20's in a freeze state and it sucks!)
When your nervous system is in this state, it can’t process emotions properly. It’s too busy trying to survive. So instead of moving through you, emotions get trapped.
They linger, stack up, and eventually feel like too much. That’s not because you’re broken — it’s because your system never got a chance to fully process and release what you were carrying. So any small emotional addition feels like the world is crashing down on you.
And let me tell you, when you start to regulate your nervous system — when you create safety in your body and learn how to come out of survival mode — everything changes.
Emotions become easier to feel without drowning in them. You respond instead of reacting. You stop spiraling over things that used to trigger you. It’s not about “fixing” yourself — it’s about creating the safety your body has always needed to soften.
The difference between a dysregulated and a regulated nervous system is absolutely life changing and you can start simply by spending 5-10 mins a few times a day focusing on slow deep breathing - as simple as it sounds, this is a powerful practice.
Chakras & Energetic Overload
While your nervous system plays a huge role in emotional regulation, your energy body — especially your chakras — holds just as much power in how you process and carry emotion.
When your chakras are balanced, energy moves more freely and emotions feel easier to handle. But when they’re blocked or out of balance, everything can feel overwhelming, or like you’ve lost control of yourself.
I want to talk about three Chakras today that relate to your emotions and being percieved as "too sensitive"
🔴🌳 Root Chakra (Safety & Stability)
When your root chakra is out of balance, you feel ungrounded — like there’s no solid foundation under your feet. This can leave you constantly on edge, anxious, and unable to feel safe in your body. It’s hard to release emotions when your system doesn’t feel safe enough to let go.
When your root is balanced, you feel anchored — like you can achieve anything, you feel stable, calm and safe to be yourself.
🟠 🌊Sacral Chakra (Emotions & Flow)
This is your emotional centre — where you process, express, and release emotional energy. When your sacral chakra is blocked or overwhelmed, emotions either get stuck or come out intensely. You might feel numb one minute and flooded the next. You might also struggle with creativity, joy, or intimacy.
I personally even had an open wound on my stomach, for no apparent reason for years that i couldn't get rid of, i was too scared to go to the doctors because i was terrified they would put me back in hospital so i just lived with it. The moment i cleared the emotional build up that was living in me, the wound went away, and its been healed ever since. This was a physical manifestation of emotional overload.
When your sacral chakra is open, emotions move through you with ease. You feel creative, connected, playful, and more in tune with your body and desires. Life feels more fluid and expressive, not heavy or rigid.
🟢💗 Heart Chakra (Connection & Compassion)
If you’re someone who feels everything deeply — especially other people’s emotions — this chakra can take a hit. When it’s overloaded, you might feel heaviness in your chest, emotionally exhausted, or like you're giving too much without receiving. Sometimes you may even shut down emotionally just to cope, which is what i did.
When your heart chakra is open, you feel light, loving, and able to give to others without losing or abandoning yourself. You feel compassionate without taking on the emotions of everyone around you. There’s space for both you and others to exist in harmony.

Empaths, Energy Dumping & Emotional Overload
If you’re highly sensitive or naturally empathetic, you don’t just feel your own emotions — you feel everything. The tension in someone’s voice, the unspoken emotion in a room, even the pain someone’s trying to hide with a smile… it all lands in your body, whether you want it to or not.
And when you haven’t been taught how to manage that, it becomes too much. Not just emotionally — but energetically. You start absorbing other people’s moods, stress, and sadness like a sponge. And the worst part is, most of the time you don’t even realise it’s happening. You just wake up one day wondering, “Why do I feel so heavy?”
The truth is, a lot of people unintentionally offload onto empaths — not because they’re bad or toxic, but because they can sense you’re safe to dump their emotional baggage onto. It’s like they hand you their pain and walk away lighter… while you’re left carrying it.
So now you’re not only dealing with your own unprocessed emotions, you’re carrying everyone else’s too — and that’s a recipe for emotional and energetic burnout.
🕯️ Candle Separation Exercise: Releasing What Isn’t Yours
This simple practice can help you reset your energy when you’re feeling weighed down by things that aren’t yours to carry.
🔥Light a candle and place it a few feet in front of you. Sit comfortably, take a few deep breaths, and just observe the flame. Let it flicker and move however it wants to.
🔥Now gently bring to mind a situation, person, or feeling that feels heavy or intrusive. Imagine that energy sitting within the flame — separate from you. Not in a harsh, cutting way, but with love and clarity.
🔥Allow yourself to feel the space between you and the flame. Breathe into that distance. Notice that you are here… and that energy is over there, it can be there, you don't have to take on its energy. You don’t need to carry it. You don’t need to fix it. You can simply let it be… and let it go.
🔥When you're ready, visualise the flame transmuting that energy into light. Take a final deep breath and thank yourself for creating space — not because you don’t care, but because your wellbeing matters too and you're allowed to protect your own energy.
🔥This gentle ritual reminds your system where your energy ends and someone else’s begins — and that’s where your freedom starts
