Top 7 Signs Your Root Chakra Is Blocked
#3 Will Surprise You
If you often feel anxious, on edge, stuck in your head, or like your brain just won’t shut up...you probably have a Root Chakra blockage.
If you deal with digestive issues, lower back pain, stiff joints, inflammation, or skin that keeps flaring up no matter what you do... you probably have a Root Chakra blockage.
🚩These are some of the biggest red flags that your Root Chakra is out of balance. You’ve probably tried to treat your symptoms at surface level — the anxiety, the bloating, the skin stuff — with diets, skin care, or just powering through but nothing really seems to stick.
That’s because no one ever tells you about the deep cause, the real reason you’re experiencing these symptoms in the first place. Your energy. (I’m living proof. This was one of the first things I healed — and my body hasn't been the same since, in the best way.)
I even got myself out of a potential week to months long hospital stay by focusing on the Root Chakra, doctors were baffled! You can read about that here: How Root Chakra Focus Released Me from the Hospital
Lets get to know the Root Chakra a little first;
The root chakra is symbolised by a glowing red sphere at the base of your spine. It’s the first chakra in your energy system, and it’s linked to the element of earth. This chakra is your foundation. It’s all about your most basic survival needs — feeling safe and secure in your body, your surroundings, and your life.
🌍It’s deeply connected to your physical body and the earth beneath you, and it thrives when that grounded connection to the earth is strong and steady.
So it makes perfect sense that one of the most common symptoms of a blocked root chakra is relentless anxiety. Because your body doesn’t feel safe. Even if your logical mind says “everything’s fine,” your system is on high alert, ready for the worst.
You might feel shaky, scattered, disconnected from your body, or like you’re always waiting for something to go wrong — even if you don’t know why.
What Is a Block in the Root Chakra Anyways?
Your chakras are part of your energetic system, and life force energy (also called prana or chi) flows through them in a circuit — starting at the base (your root chakra) and moving all the way up to the crown at the top of your head, before flowing back down again.
It’s a loop. A constant flow.
⚡️Kind of like those circuits we learned about in science class — remember those? If there’s a break in the circuit, the electricity can’t flow, and nothing works the way it’s supposed to. Your body and energy system work in the exact same way.
If there’s a block in one of your chakras — especially your root — the energy can’t flow freely. The entire system gets disrupted, and the life force energy your body depends on can’t properly reach certain areas. That’s when symptoms start showing up — mentally, emotionally, and physically.
🪨Often, the type of symptoms you’re dealing with can point to which chakra is blocked. And most people have more than one chakra imbalance at a time — but the root chakra is special. It’s the foundation. It’s the base that holds the rest of the system up. If your root chakra is blocked, all the other chakras above it are going to be affected too.
But here’s the good news: no matter how blocked your root chakra feels right now, it can be opened and rebalanced. So let’s dive into the top 7 signs your root chakra is blocked…
1. Digestive Issues — Especially in the Lower Gut
One of the biggest signs of a blocked root chakra is digestive trouble — especially anything affecting the lower part of your digestive system. We’re talking constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, IBS, IBD, or just that feeling that your gut is constantly off.
🍎💊I used to deal with this personally (IBD in my case), and no matter what I ate, how healthy I tried to be, or how many supplements I took, my symptoms didn’t shift. When your nervous system doesn’t feel safe, your body goes into survival mode, constantly preparing to fight or flee and so digestion is not a priority.
Think about if a lion was chasing you, your body would be fully focused on getting you out of that situation and shutting down all non-essential, non-urgent things like digestion. When your Root Chakra is blocked, your body is on high alert and it constantly thinks there is a lion chasing you.
✨When your root chakra is balanced, your gut finally starts to calm. Bloating eases, toilet habits return to normal, and digestion becomes smoother, more predictable, and far less stressful — like your body finally knows it’s safe to just digest again. Your body literally enters the ‘rest and digest’ mode because it feels safe to do so. ✨
2. Anxiety, Worry, and Low Self-Esteem
Feeling anxious all the time, struggling with racing thoughts, overthinking everything, or constantly worrying about the future are all rooted (pun intended) in an imbalanced root chakra.
When this energy centre is blocked, your body doesn’t feel safe — even if there’s no “real” threat (think of the lion analogy from point 1.)
😟That sense of unease starts to take over. You might also find yourself second-guessing everything, shrinking yourself in conversations, or avoiding putting yourself out there because deep down, you don’t feel solid or secure in who you are.
Low self-worth, insecurity, passivity, and a lack of confidence are all signs that your foundation is shaky — and that foundation is your root.
✨When your root chakra is balanced, that inner panic softens and you begin to think much more clearly. The thoughts slow down, you feel grounded and present, and confidence starts to grow without you forcing it. You feel safe in your body, safe to be seen, calm and trusting in yourself and your environment. ✨
3. Money Struggles and Survival Stress
Money problems are one of the clearest signs that your root chakra needs attention. Whether it’s constantly feeling like you don’t have enough, living paycheck to paycheck, being scared to spend, or obsessively clinging to savings — it’s all survival mode.
💵💰The root chakra governs your sense of safety and security, and in today’s world, money is deeply tied to both. Even if you technically have “enough,” you might still feel unsafe or unstable when it comes to finances — which is a sign your energy hasn’t caught up.
You could also notice patterns of under-earning, never getting ahead, or sabotaging financial progress without knowing why.
And I hear you “But I can’t help (this, that, the other)” but you must understand that when your energy is rooted in safety and survival, you show up differently In the world, in yourself and so you make different choices you attract different experiences and like a domino effect, your whole life can change.
✨When your root chakra is balanced, your relationship with money changes completely. You feel supported. There’s a quiet inner knowing that your needs will always be met. You make decisions from a place of trust instead of fear, and you stop gripping so tightly — because your system finally feels secure.✨
4. Joint Pain, Sciatica, or Leg and Foot Issues
Your root chakra is located at the base of your spine — and it governs everything from your hips downward. That includes your legs, feet, lower back, and even your joints. So if you’ve been dealing with things like sciatica, aching joints, tight hips, heaviness in your legs, or feet that feel sore or unsteady for no clear reason… your root chakra might be the one screaming for help.
Physical pain in the lower body often reflects energetic instability. It’s like your foundation is shaky, so your body tenses up, misaligns, or weakens in that area. And no, it’s not just age or wear and tear — especially if you intuitively know something deeper is going on. ✨When your root chakra is balanced, your body feels supported — literally. You move through the world with more ease, strength, and flow. Pain starts to lessen, tension releases, and you feel more at home in your lower body. It’s like your legs remember they’re meant to carry you forward, not weigh you down.✨

5. Anger, Mood Swings, and Impulsiveness
If you find yourself feeling snappy, agitated, constantly on edge, or reacting in ways that don’t even feel like you — your root chakra might be out of balance.
⚠️When your root chakra is blocked, you don’t feel safe in your environment or even in your own body. So when someone says or does something small, it can feel like a big threat — and you react from a place of fear. Fear of what might happen. Fear of not being in control. Fear of being unsafe. You try to keep a tight grip on everything, but it’s exhausting… and it doesn’t work.
Everything feels like a potential threat because, energetically, you don’t feel stable. It’s like there’s no solid foundation beneath your feet — like the rug could be pulled out from under you at any moment. And when your system is that unsettled, of course your emotions feel intense. Of course you swing from calm to overwhelmed. You’re not being irrational — you’re just reacting to an internal sense of chaos that no one else can see.
💥Impulsiveness is another way this shows up. Because if that rug is about to disappear, your system believes you have to act now. Whether it’s spending money, quitting something, lashing out, or making a big decision in a rush — there’s a feeling of, “If I don’t do this right now, I might lose my chance, or something bad might happen.”
It’s not about desire — it’s about survival. Impulsiveness becomes a way to grab a fleeting sense of control or safety, even if just for a second. But it never lasts.
✨When your root chakra is balanced, those intense emotional waves and urgent behaviours begin to soften. You feel steady, supported, and present in your body. You stop reacting to everything as if it’s life or death — and start responding with clarity, calm, and trust in yourself and your environment.✨
6. Inflammation in the Body — Especially in the Gut or Skin
Chronic inflammation is one of the biggest indicators that your root chakra is out of alignment. Why? Because inflammation is a physical manifestation of internal stress and instability — and when your body doesn’t feel safe, it shows up as inflammation.
🔥If your gut is constantly inflamed, your skin keeps breaking out, flaring up, or feeling irritated for no obvious reason, or you’re dealing with unexplained pain or swelling, your root chakra may be the one crying out for help.
This chakra governs the physical body and its basic survival, so when your energy is stuck in survival mode, your body gets the message: “We’re under threat.” That message triggers chronic inflammation, even when nothing is actually wrong. Your body is just trying to protect you — but it’s reacting to energetic fear, not physical danger.

✨When your root chakra is balanced, inflammation often starts to reduce or disappear completely. Your body gets the signal that it’s finally safe to repair, not just protect. Skin clears, the gut calms, flare-ups fade, and that chronic tension starts to ease. It’s like your body finally exhales — because it knows the threat has passed.✨
7. Weight Struggles and Overeating
Struggling with your weight — whether it’s unexplained gain, difficulty losing it, or turning to food for comfort — is another classic sign of a blocked root chakra.
🍕🍫When this chakra is out of balance, your system is focused on survival. And food? That’s one of the most basic forms of safety we have. So if you’re not feeling safe in your body, your mind, or your life, your system might reach for food as a way to feel grounded. It’s not just emotional eating — it’s energetic.
You might overeat without understanding why, feel like you’re never truly satisfied, or eat in a rushed, disconnected way. Your body may also hold onto weight as a way to feel protected — like an energetic buffer between you and the outside world.
✨When your root chakra is balanced, that survival-driven relationship with food starts to dissolve. You feel more connected to your body’s true hunger and fullness cues. Food becomes nourishing rather than comforting. And your body feels safe enough to let go — of excess weight, tension, and the urge to constantly fill a void.✨
So Your Root Chakra Might Be Blocked — What Now?
If you saw yourself in two or more of the signs above, there’s a very good chance your root chakra is out of balance. And if your root chakra is blocked… everything else struggles too.
Your energy can’t flow.
Your body doesn’t feel safe.
And no matter how hard you try, you stay stuck in survival mode — mentally, emotionally, and physically.
